FIAP Distinctions
The Photographic Society of Singapore (PSS) is the official National Federation appointed by The International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP).
Applying for FIAP distinctions through a federation other than that of your own country is against the rules and strictly prohibited. All Singapore photographers have to apply for FIAP Honours through PSS.
All applicants are required to complete and submit a FIAP Distinctions Application Dossier.
AFIAP applicants must create a FIAP Profile and purchase a FIAP Photographer Card through https://www.myfiap.net/user/register/fp before submitting their distinction applications.
The application closing date for the FIAP Membership, AFIAP and EFIAP will be 31st March 2024.
The application closing date for MFIAP will be 1st December 2024. Applications should be sent to the following:

The FIAP Photographer’s Life-Card
Any candidate for a photographic distinction of FIAP must hold a FIAP Photographer’s Card. The Photographer’s Card may be replaced free when applying for a FIAP distinction, provided that the candidate submits a photograph and a new request form indicating the serial number of the current card.
Notes:-
- The amended FIAP Distinctions criteria shall apply starting from 1 January 2017.
- All local applicants must apply through PSS’s FIAP Liaison Officer, Tel: 63343361
- Applicants for FIAP Distinctions must first obtain a FIAP Photographer’s Card.
- The fee for the FIAP Photographer’s Card is SGD $120.00 (excluding postage).
(1) AFIAP DISTINCTION
The distinction “Artist FIAP” (AFIAP) is the first artistic distinction that can be obtained. It is awarded to photographic artists whose artistic qualities, technique and production of work have been acknowledged through participations in international salons under FIAP Patronage.
The candidate for this distinction must:
- Have taken part with success in international salons under FIAP Patronage for at least 1 year; i.e. his first FIAP-recognised acceptance must have occurred at least 1 year ago.
- Have taken part with success in at least 15 international salons under FIAP Patronage in at least 8 different countries; a Circuit has to be considered as a single salon.
- Have obtained at least 40 acceptances in international salons under FIAP Patronage with at least 15 different works plus 6 more acceptances gained from locally organised international salons that are also under FIAP Patronage.
- Include in his works a minimum of 4 different works, which have each received at least one acceptance in “Print” salons under FIAP Patronage.(i.e. at least 4 acceptances must be achieved through print acceptances for AFIAP). Please note when participating in a Circuit, only 1 acceptance will be counted for each Title in the entire Circuit. In other words, multiple acceptances for the same Title will only count as 1 acceptance.
Candidates for AFIAP distinction must submit:
- A completed application dossier prescribed by FIAP (which can be obtain from PSS).
- 5 works of the candidate (black and white prints, colour prints or a mixture) to be submitted in CD, with 3600 pixels at the longer side. Each of these 5 works must have gained at least 3 acceptances each in salons with FIAP Patronage.
- All the submitted works must have obtained FIAP-recognised acceptances. Whether or not the distinction is awarded, the works become the property of FIAP. They will become part of the artistic patrimony of FIAP and may be used to put together collections.
- A passport photograph of the applicant.
- Fee: SGD $200.00 (excluding postage).
- When the AFIAP distinction is awarded, the candidate will receive a diploma and a badge with green enamel.
(2) EFIAP DISTINCTION
The distinction “Excellence FIAP” (EFIAP) is awarded to photographic artists who, apart from having excellent techniques, have a significant number of their work often been accepted in many international salons under FIAP Patronage.
The candidate for EFIAP distinction must:
- Be holder of the AFIAP distinction. An application for this distinction can be made 1 year after the award of the AFIAP distinction; based on the date of the diploma.
- Have taken part with success in at least 30 international salons under FIAP Patronage in at least 20 different countries; a Circuit has to be considered as a single salon.
- Have obtained at least 250 acceptances with at least 50 different works in international salons under FIAP Patronage.
- Include in his works a minimum of 12 different works, which have each received at least one acceptance in “Print” salons under FIAP Patronage. Please note when participating in a Circuit, only 1 acceptance will be counted for each Title in the entire Circuit. In other words, multiple acceptances for the same Title will only count as 1 acceptance.
Candidates for EFIAP distinction must submit:
- A completed application dossier prescribed by FIAP (which can be obtain from PSS).
- 5 works of the candidate (black and white prints, colour prints or a mixture) to be submitted in CD, with 3600 pixels at the longer side and these 5 new works must be different from those that has been submitted for the candidate’s AFIAP distinction application.
- Each of these 5 works must have gained at least 3 acceptances each in salons with FIAP Patronage and 2 of these works must have been awarded at least once in a different salon from different countries.
- Whether or not the distinction is awarded, the works become the property of FIAP. They will become part of the artistic patrimony of FIAP and may be used to put together collections.
- A passport photograph of the applicant.
- Fee: SGD $200.00 (excluding postage).
- When the EFIAP distinction is awarded, the candidate will receive a diploma and a badge with red enamel.
(3) THE EFIAP LEVELS
In order to honour photographic artists who, after having received the EFIAP distinction, continue to actively participate in international salons under FIAP Patronage and by so doing help promote photography with their new artistic production, FIAP has instituted four additional EFIAP levels:
The candidate for “EFIAP Levels” Distinctions must:
- Be a holder of the EFIAP Distinction (or previous EFIAP Levels Distinction) for at least one year from the date of the diploma for that previous distinction;
- and since the date on the applicant’s diploma for the EFIAP Distinction have obtained in total at least in international salons under FIAP Patronage:

After the date of being awarded the EFIAP/p distinction or since 1st January 2015, whichever is later, have obtained:

The candidate for an “EFIAP Level” Distinction must submit:
1. A complete application using forms prescribed by FIAP (which can be obtained from PSS)
2. A set of photographs, which have achieved the below:

3. These photographs must be different and not resemble or be similar to those submitted for other distinctions. In this respect a Circuit is considered to be a single salon. The works of the candidate (black and white prints, colour prints or a mixture) should be submitted in CD, with 3600 pixels at the longer side.
4. In each year only one EFIAP level can be applied for and each level – Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond 1, Diamond 2 or Diamond 3 – must be achieved in this sequential order.
5. Whether or not the distinction is awarded, the works become the property of FIAP. They will become part of the artistic patrimony of FIAP and may be used to put together collections.
6. A passport photograph of the applicant.
7. Fee: SGD $200.00 (excluding postage).
8. When the EFIAP level is awarded, the candidate will receive a diploma and a badge with red enamel combined with a distinctive addition for each level: bronze colour for EFIAP/b, silver colour for EFIAP/s, gold colour for EFIAP/g and black-platinum colour for EFIAP/p. For the EFIAP Diamond levels another badge will be created.
(4) MFIAP DISTINCTION
The distinction “Master Photographer of FIAP” (MFIAP) is awarded to a photographic artist in recognition of his/her entire achievements in the field of artistic photography. MFIAP is the third step, after AFIAP and EFIAP, in the FIAP distinctions awarded for personal successes in photography. The candidate must be a holder of the EFIAP distinction for at least 3 years, based on the date of the diploma.
The candidate for this distinction must submit:
- Complete curriculum vitae using forms prescribed by FIAP. The text should be written in one of the official FIAP languages.
- A portfolio of 20 images numbered from 1 to 20 (black and white prints or colour prints). The prints or support must measure 30 x 40 cm. A portfolio-style of presentation is required. The weight of the complete portfolio should not exceed 2 kilograms.
- This collection must be coherent from its conception to its realisation and presentation.
- An introductory text that describes the subject and the creative concept of the photographic artist. The text must be written in one of the official FIAP languages.
- A list of acceptances and prizes obtained in international salons under FIAP Patronage is not necessary and these will not be taken into consideration.
- Applications for MFIAP must be signed and sent to the Liaison Officer of FIAP in Singapore and if possible, together with an additional soft copy of the complete document by electronic mail.
