PSS today
Even as it celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2010, PSS’ objectives have always stayed the same. These are: to foster and promote the practice and appreciation of photography in Singapore; to provide suitable facilities for members to pursue their interest; and to organise international photographic exhibitions, as well as to help other organisations to organise photographic competitions and exhibitions, locally and globally.
Today PSS is more successful than it has ever been, with a membership of more than 2,200 men and women from all walks of life. It is recognised by FIAP as the national photographic body in Singapore, and its current president David P C Tay is a member of the FIAP Directory Board, the first Asian ever to be elected to the 9-member Board. Another PSS office-holder, vice-president Goh Kim Hui, is the FIAP Liaison Officer for Singapore, while PSS life member Tan Lip Seng is the overseas representative of RPS.
PSS has been a corporate member of the People’s Association (PA) since 1 August 1960 and its current president Mr Tay has been a member of the PA Board of Management since 1999. Many PSS members are also advisors of camera clubs at PA’s various Community Clubs.
These progressions would not have been possible without the foresight of its pioneers – five men with a vision and the passion to keep the art of photography alive in Singapore.
