DELEGATES OF 43 COUNTRIES ATTENDING 30TH FIAP CONGRESS IN HANOI
Delegates of 43 countries attend 30th FIAP Congress in Hanoi
Singapore represented by eight PSS members
The 30th Congress of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) was held at the Sofitel Plaza Hanoi Hotel, 1 to 8 August 2010. Altogether 232 delegates from 43 countries attended the Congress which was opened by Vietnam’s Vice Premier Nguyen Thien Nhan.
The Singapore delegation comprised: PSS president David Tay (also a member of the FIAP Directory Board), vice president and FIAP liaison officer, Goh Kim Hui, council members Edward Cheong, Tan Peng Chuan, Ong Ngee Ming, and PSS members Tan Kin Teng, David Low and Daphne Yew.
During the administrative sessions of the Congress, David Tay presented the Children of the World project to the delegates and sought their support for the event that would be organised by PSS to commemorate its 60th Anniversary as well as FIAP’s 60th Anniversary.

Aside the administrative sessions, the Singapore delegates also attended the opening of the 30th FIAP Monochrome Biennial and the 32nd FIAP Youth Biennial at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre of Art-Literary. They also joined delegates from the other 42 countries to take pictures at Ninh Bihn, the Quang Ninh coal mines, and Halong Bay which is recognised by UNESCO as a world natural heritage. The delegates also visited other places of interest in Hanoi giving them a better understanding of the Vietnamese culture and heritage.

More importantly, the Congress allowed the Singapore delegates to deepen their ties with representatives from other countries, as well as to establish new contacts that will help extend PSS’s footprints overseas.

The Congress in Hanoi also helped bring overseas visitors to PSS. FIAP Secretary-General Riccardo Busi and FIAP Treasurer Herbert Gmeiner stopped over Singapore for a couple of days before leaving for Hanoi. After the congress, members of the Photographic Club of Luxembourg, Manon Elsen, Fernanda Birger and Paul Mathey also stopped by Singapore for three days before returning home.
